Taxi: Prices & tipping
There is no need to walk in Meloneras. Of course it is pleasing to take a stroll along the beach promenade, but if you want to rest your tired legs there are plenty of taxis around.
Convenient
Before going out at night we simply stopped by the reception at our hotel and asked them to call us a taxi. After less than 2 minutes the taxi was in front of the hotel and ready to pick us up. It’s a taxi central in the centre of Meloneras, close to the Casino. Available taxis wait here for business, and it seems to be plenty of taxis around.
Prices
When you order a taxi in advance the meter starts at €2.50. If you pick one up at the street it starts at €2.05. A ride with a taxi from Meloneras to Playa del Ingles (3-4 km ride) costs approximately €5.
Tipping
Taxi drivers both expect and become happy if you round up to the nearest euro. If the taxi ride cost you €5.50 it is common to round up to €6. If the ride costs €4.90, there’s no need to fickle around with change, give the taxi driver your €5 note and say “gracias.”
